CD43 promoter (Leukocytes & platelets) in pDRIVE expression plasmid
CD43, a major sialoglycoprotein expressed on the surface of leukocytes and platelets, plays an important role both in adhesion and signal transduction.
The CD43 promoter does not contain any TATA or CAAT boxes, but is highly enriched in G and C nucleotides and contains short repeat sequences similar to those found in promoters of "housekeeping" genes [1].
Transcription from the CD43 promoter is mediated by the transcription factor Sp1, which binds to repeats of a GGGTGG motif in the 5'-flanking sequence.
This regulatory region is ubiquitously functional in mammalian cells, providing a high transcriptional potential [2].
