ABOUT
SP-B promoter (Lung) in pDRIVE expression plasmid
Surfactant protein B (SP-B) is a developmentally and hormonally regulated lung protein that is required for normal surfactant function. SP-B is selectively expressed in bronchiolar and alveolar epithelial cells of the lung.
The human SP-B promoter fragment directs tissue- and lung cell-specific transgene expression [1].
It contains two cis-acting elements for two transcription factors, thyroid transcription factor (TTF)-1 and hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)-3 that are important for the specificity and the activation of gene expression in the lung [2].
Promoter activity is strongly inhibited in a dosedependent fashion by phorbol ester, such as 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA).
