Alias : BPIFD2
Lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) is a serum glycoprotein synthesized in the liver [1]. LBP binds to a variety of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and to lipid A, the lipid moiety of LPS. LPS bound to LBP is a ligand for CD14 which in turn presents LPS to TLR4 by transferring LPS to MD2. LBP plays a dual role, both potentiating and decreasing cell responses to LPS [2]. Low concentrations of LBP enhance cell stimulation, whereas high LBP concentrations inhibit cell responses to LPS. LBP attenuates signal responses by interfering with LPS transfer from CD14 to the TLR4/MD2 receptor complex [3].
